Friday

Friday was a mix of highs and lows for us.
Thomas is now on the ventilator, which is something we knew might happen as his work of breathing increased. He does seem very comfortable, and we are thankful for that.
We got to snuggle some with him which was wonderful. We can't hold him, but we could put our hands under his head and back and pretend a little :)
We had a pretty intense talk with one of the doctors.  We know Thomas has a long road ahead of him, and that his surgery won't be easy.  His diagnosis of HLHS is bad enough on its own, but Thomas's small size is definitely another challenge in the way.
We are gearing up for the fight of our lives, as he will hopefully go to surgery in the next few days.

Please pray for Thomas to rest, grow, and be strong for surgery.
Please pray for the doctors caring for him.  Please pray that they will see his potential despite his small size and complicated diagnosis.
Please pray for protection for his brain during surgery.
Pray that he is strong enough to come off of the ventilator after surgery.
Pray for him to remain free of infections and other complications.
Please pray for peace for us, and pray that our faith will remain strong.

I don't know how we would get through this without all of your support, prayers, and words of encouragement.  Thank you so much.

That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe.

  1. Praying hard. All this week I have thought of you and the Footprints poem... in these hard times it is He who carries you. I pray you find peace this weekend and throughout all these trials. Love, Gayle

  2. The Lord has chosen the best parents for Thomas. You both are strong and trust in Him. I know you will all get through this. You have so many people praying for everyone, and he listens to your prayers. I personally know prayer heals (after a golf cart accident at 15 that led me to have emergency surgery for an epidural hematoma from a depressed skull fracture. I have no brain swelling and no brain damage.) He healed me. I know He listens.
    Chip is very blessed to have you as his doctor!
    Please know that we are praying for you every day and are here if you need anything while out of town. Lauren Klein

  4. My heart aches for you. I am so thankful for the HOPE we have in the Great Physician. Praising God today for Thomas, his Mommy and Daddy, for the knowledge we have to repair Thomas' heart and for the technology we have to support him. Praying for your peace and rest. Psalm 121
    I lift up my eyes to the mountains-
    where does my help come from?
    My help comes from the Lord,
    the maker of heaven and earth.
    He will not let your foot slip-
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
    Indeed he who watches over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.
    The Lord watches over you -
    the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
    the sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.
    The Lord will keep you from all harm-
    He will watch over your life;
    the Lord will watch over your coming and going
    both now and forevermore.

  5. Continuing to pray for you all. As the days start to run together & you feel more frustration at the waiting game that is the life of any NICU parent, may The Lord give you peace & rest during the times you are separated from Baby Thomas. As the doctors prepare for his upcoming surgery, may the Vent that I know you were hoping he wouldn't need @ this point provide Thomas with the rest & extra strength he needs to go to surgery & recover as we all know he can. Love to you all~~Stephanie

    Thomas is loved by so many, we only wish we lived closer. He is a fighter and will grow into his little BIG feet before we all know it.
