Urgent! Chest closure update

Thomas's chest was closed this afternoon. Initially he tolerated it well, but around 4pm his blood pressure dropped. He was given volume and all inotropic meds were increased, but ultimately they decided he wasn't tolerating it and he is now having his chest reopened as I type this. We knew ths was a risk, as the first 12-24h after closure can be touchy. I'm so disappointed.

Please pray that he will tolerate this well and his blood pressure and other values will normalize quickly.
Pray that he is stable enough to try closing again in a few days.

This is such a roller coaster! Please pray that things will settle down and he will be strong so we can make some forward progress.

"how can you say the LORD does not see your troubles?
....Have you never heard?
Have you never understood?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of all the earth.
He never grows weak or weary.
No one can measure the depths of his understanding. (Isaiah 40:27, 28 NLT)

  25. As i read this i am searching for something to say to uplift your heart and soul...and this came to my mind... God our Father doesn't line up the biggest, best, or even the strongest to accomplish his greatest work... And last time i checked-there was another Thomas that He cared enough about to appear to him personally. Keep your eyes open...Jesus is there with your Thomas too...
I promise to pray for your hearts along with Thomas's.

I am lifting you both up in prayer constantly and will continue to do so. I am so, so sorry for your loss, and I know that there are no possible words to provide the comfort and peace you seek. I pray you will find that peace in God & be able to rest in Him. Matthew 11:28 "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest." Your precious, Sweet Thomas is resting peacefully in His arms now.

  43. I am so sad to hear about your sweet Thomas. The grief of losing a child is overwhelming and crushing and terrifying. But our good God is with you, and He sheds every tear alongside you. He is faithful even in the darkest of places, and He will comfort your broken hearts. I am lifting you up before the Lord and will do so continually.

Two years ago our son Samuel died at Egleston when he was 30 days old. He, too, had severe heart defects. Life without Samuel has been heartbreaking, but it has also been a road that's drawn us so intimately to our Savior. God has shown up in amazing ways and carried us through the most painful days. He is a refuge, a fortress, the true Hope, and the Comforter. I am praying that you can see Him even in these horrible days without your Thomas.

A verse that has been an anchor for me is Psalm 84:5-7, "Happy are those who are strong in the Lord...When they walk through the Valley of Weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs when pools of blessing collect after the rains." I am hoping for your pools of blessing that will someday collect in this Valley of Weeping where you find yourselves.

    Peace, love, and prayers,
    Kathryn Apinis

  45. Dr. Behm, we had no idea until today the difficult road that you have all been on through the pregnancy and precious Thomas' beautiful life. We are praying for you, TJ, and your family to get through this difficult time with the help of God's grace and love and the knowledge that He has a plan and that little Thomas is safe with Him, in His arms. Please know that you are a blessing in the lives of all that know you and we pray that in the midst of your grief that you receive a blessing in whatever form God would send it. Our love always, the Holbrook family

  47. Mel and TJ,
There are no good words for these times. We simply want to say we are deeply saddened for you both and continue to pray for your family. Maybe down the road the following quote will be comforting.

    Love you,
    Mindy and Justin Pauly

"God is too wise to know all about us and what is really best for us to be and to have. And He is tood good not to desire our highest good and too powerful, desiring, not to effect it. If then what He has appointed for us does not seem to us the best - or even to be good - our true course is to remember that He sees further than we do - and that we shall understand Him in time when His plans have unfolded themselves. Meanwhile, casting all our care upon Him since He careth for us." -Henry Parry Liddon
